Square ended up doing pretty, pretty good.

This was one of my earliest forays into tv and as such it tastes of a certain vintage. But it was Square’s first ever spot, and I wrote it, so it would be weird not to include it here. The messaging is clean and clear because we had to introduce the product and its promise. The execution is deceptively simple, all done on tabletops in a single-take, cleverly designed and directed by Terry Timely.

Working with my partner at Eleven Inc., Babak Khoshnoud, we also handled Square’s first out of home for test markets. (Related: the sky in the photo below looks blown out, because Portland.)
